Capability
John is an experienced surveyor with some fifteen years experience including Tanktainer/Container Inspection, Damage Inspection, Draft Survey, Trimming Survey, Bunker Survey, On/Off Hire-Condition Survey, Steel and Project Cargo Inspection, P & I Matters, Loading Supervision, Securing and Inspection of Heavy Project Cargoes, Mock PSC, as well as, Mooring Trainer, Consultant and PIC.
Draft survey & load master/supervision is challenging at times, providing assistance to Masters and Chief Officers of the vessel during loading (calculation of trimming cargo to achieve maximum draft/cargo) with due consideration to vessel stability and stress criteria. In addition, vessels are loaded in compliance with International Load Line Conventions, local Port Regulations, tidal sailing windows and draft restrictions, to achieve overall best outcomes for all parties, including terminal operators. The surveyor at times has to verify/study the cargo-loading plan on behalf of the terminal to ensure loading/de ballasting sequence is acceptable throughout loading operation, thus minimising delays and improving both terminal and port efficiencies.
He has been instrumental in promoting the use of the Australian developed “Cargo Max” draft survey, trimming and reporting software, instigating new processes and programs to increase business efficiency and improved outcomes for clients through better reporting and provision of standardised practices.
Previously Divisional Manager for MIPEC Marine Consultants & Surveyors, formerly Rodds Bay Maritime, and now Director of SEAWEIGH, John’s capability spans all aspects of marine surveying and inspections, as well as consultation to the marine and maritime sectors.
